Reclaiming West Park 2024
The West Park Live Project ‘Reclaiming West Park’ was sponsored by local housing charity Giroscope to help the local Newington community develop the opportunities offered by the Newington Neighbourhood Plan in the context of West Park and its adjoining areas.
Over a six-week period from October to December 2024 students from the University of Sheffield’s Architecture, Landscape, and Architectural Design master’s course worked with the many stakeholders in West Park including Hull City Council, the Stadium Management Company and the local community to develop a unique set of proposals for a holistic and comprehensive design vision for West Park, as an extension of the 2023 Neighbourhood Plan and was produced to visualise the community ambitions outlined within the Plan.

Referendum Result 2023
We are delighted to report that the Newington Neighbourhood Plan was overwhelming endorsed by the people of Newington at the referendum which took place on Thursday 9 November 2023. Thank you all for your support!
This means that the plan is now part of the statutory development plan for the area and any planning applications must be determined in accordance with the development plan. This will involve engaging with Hull City Council Officers and making representations on planning applications as necessary. This may also involve engaging with developers and the Council in delivering community and environmental projects such as new community facilities or improvement of public spaces and additionally working towards the direct delivery of the legacy projects contained in the plan. In order to achieve this, we will be working within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding negotiated with Hull City Council as part of the development of the plan.
