MEMBERSHIP

HFCO is a membership-based and membership-led organisation, by this we mean an organisation where the community controls the direction and purpose of the organisation.

Our membership is constantly evolving to meet changing social needs, and includes community organisations, communities of interest, infrastructure bodies, and individual members. As such, it reflects the Community Matters view of local federations:

Local federations…aim to provide practical information and an advice service to new and existing community groups through information sheets, publications and so forth. They provide training for local groups and offer advice on all aspects of running a community building. They make representation on behalf of their members to local authorities and other statutory bodies. They work closely with other voluntary organisations, and may affiliate to appropriate national bodies such as Community Matters.

HFCO strongly supports neighbourhood, or community interest self-help and mutual support and we seek to represent the community interests of residents and community members and provide informal and autonomous (independent) services.

Membership benefits include:

  • Collective lobbying for service and policy improvements
  • Help with compliance with licences such as PPS and PRS licences for music, CRB, PAT tests and issues relating to running community buildings.
  • Support in developing Policies & Procedures
  • Training on key issues
  • General skills and knowledge sharing between volunteers and committee members
